World Travel Market Preparations: Business Cards

Only a little over a month remains until the London 2013 World Travel Market. I have my press pass, the hostel is booked, plane tickets are purchased and now I have my business cards! I used moo.com, and it was really such a great experience. I used the “Great Escapes” Template. I loved the color scheme and layout on the front, and on the back, you can choose 5 of your own photos that will alternate on the cards…

*There isn’t actually a blank space under “Two Thumbs Travels”, I just figured the internet isn’t the best place to display my personal cell phone.

You can use the photos on the back as a mini photography portoflio, like I did with the New York and Key West Photos, or have photos of yourself to make them remember you, like the skydiving and paddle-boarding shots…. or you can have a picture of your cat, just because you can…

Anyway, the cards are made really well. They’re not flimsy and cheap feeling, like cards I had previously purchased from a large office supply retail chain. I also love the matte finish and rounded corners, but there are many other options also. Plus, they come in a really cute little black box so you can carry them around and not get them damaged or lost.

The shipping was incredibly fast too. I ordered them on September 15th and the confirmation said they would arrive by September 25th. This is why I was fairly surprised when they came in the mail only 5 days after I placed the order and 5 days before they were due to arrive.

I wanted the cards to look professional, but stand out with a little humor (Cat Lady) and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I highly recommend moo.com for not only business cards, but all kinds of promotional materials. Go check out their website!

Side notes: I would like to point out that I know the scratches on my desk are terrible and I will be refurbishing and posting about it as soon as time allows. Also, I will only have 8 weeks of class left for my B.A.S. after the WTM, but it would be a huge waste of money hassle to make these and then have to order new ones 8 weeks later, so I decided to include it on there already. I hope that doesn’t offend anyone!

Sun City Stables

I spent my Memorial Day at Sun City Stables and I have the sunburn to prove it! They have horseback riding or a petting zoo if riding isn’t really your thing. Time is of the essence though, because right now they have the CUTEST little baby horse! Meet Milo…

Milo Kisses copy

He has absolutely no fears and will happily walk over and chew on your arm, face, camera… whatever. He’s not picky. The sheep are shameless as well.

Goat Attack copy

In their defense, I did enter the pen with a bag of chips. If you are around sheep, or goats for that matter, with a bag of chips they really can’t be held responsible for their actions.

On top of the goats, sheep and horses, there are also llamas, an alpaca, an ostrich and a couple guinea pigs… and maybe some other things that I have forgotten. It’s only $5 for the petting zoo, which is nothing, so go check it out! The riding trails are lovely, the people are friendly and the animals are great. 🙂

Chevron Door

So I used to have my own apartment and was independent and all that non-sense. Independence was fun, but being broke all the time was not! So… I moved back in with my parents and went back to school. I must say I have no regrets about that decision! I only have a 3 semesters left (so close yet so far away!) and I’ve gotten loads of bonding time with my family. I first moved back home about 3 years ago into my brothers old room and after living in an all white apartment for quite some time, I guess I was starved for color. I painted the room red… like bright Miami party type red…

It was fun for a little bit, but far from calming! After about two years, I came to my senses and painted it a nice seafoamy-teal type color. For some reason, the AC closet in our home is built right into my bedroom. It has this tiny little door that I used to imagine led to a secret hiding room when I was little. Oh childhood… When you open it, all you see is a big, noisy, somewhat dusty tank. Not very exciting, but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t make the outside cute! At first I thought about making the outside a different color from the other walls, but that was too boring. I decided to try a chevron thing. I removed all of the hardware from the door first: knob, hinges, etc.. then I took it out to the garage and taped out the chevrons.

For this I used a ruler and a pencil. I decided I want the chevrons to be about 6in and the gaps to be a foot, so I made tick marks all down the sides. Then for the middle I did the same, but I started about 6in down so the depth of the chevrons would be about 6in. I probably should have taken pictures of this, I know… I’m learning. I didn’t want anything too bright, because the chevrons are busy enough. When I went to Home Depot I already had grey in mind and apparently it was meant to be! I ALWAYS check the oops paint section in Home Depot (sometimes I will go there JUST to check it, if I’m honest) and what do you know… there was a sample size grey there! So the paint for this only cost me 50 cents! Small blessings!

Anyway, I painted it and this was how it turned out…

I used a small foam roller so the paint went on smoothly with no brush streaks.

I absolutely love it! I have a confession though. I had to update this post, because somehow all the pictures got erased, and after almost 8 months, I still have not replaced the door knob and hinges… I guess I should do that at some point…
